Don Orione Formation House, Karen

The mother house of the mission, opened in 1996 on Langata South Road: today the house of philosophy and theology students, and the seat of the Delegation.

The house

This is where the mission in Kenya began. In 1996 Fr. Giuseppe Vallauri opened the first formation house of the Sons of Divine Providence on Langata South Road, in Karen, Nairobi. It has been the mother house ever since, and today it is also the seat of the Delegation “Our Lady of the Rosary”.

The house is now the house of philosophy and theology students. The seminarians study at Tangaza University College and Utume College. The community is deliberately international — Kenya, India, Togo, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and beyond — which is its own kind of formation: you learn the Congregation is larger than your language.

The chapel

The chapel was opened on 24 May 2014 and blessed by the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Charles Balvo. On its facade it carries the motto of the Little Work of Divine Providence: Instaurare omnia in Christo — to restore all things in Christ. Every student who leaves the house in the morning reads it.

Support & contact

Forming a religious takes years of study, books and daily bread. Those who support our students are supporting every work on this website, twenty years before it happens.
