Sholinke Community Resource Centre
A project that began as the dream of a hospital, and became something the community needed more.
The story
The project began about ten years ago in Sholinke Ward, Olosirikon, in Kajiado East, with a clear and generous dream: to build a hospital.
Over the years it became clear that the community needed something broader. A hospital answers one question; the people here were asking several at once — about health, yes, but also about a place to meet, a way to earn, a skill to learn. Holding on to the original plan would have meant serving the plan instead of the people.
After a major renovation, the work reopened in its present form: a flexible, multi-purpose Community Resource Centre. Its guiding rule is simple, and we keep it written down: provide what the community needs, remaining faithful to the intention of the founding donors, who gave in order to serve the health of this community.
Four pillars
Healthcare Centre
Consultations for adults and for under-fives; pharmacy; laboratory; clinics for diabetes and hypertension; child welfare; antenatal and postnatal care; health education; minor surgery.
Conference & Community Facility
A hall for one hundred people — church meetings, trainings, seminars, celebrations — with a garden, reliable water and power, a sound system and parking.
Poultry Farm
Fresh eggs, live chickens and month-old chicks, with poultry-keeping training and advisory for anyone who wants to start their own.
ICT & Training Centre
Printing, photocopying and lamination; basic computer training and digital literacy.
In development
Partnerships with colleges for vocational training are being prepared: hospitality courses for young women, solar-installation courses for young men. Both were chosen because there is work at the end of them.
Orione Riders Garage
At Rankau, in Kajiado, there is a motorcycle workshop that the Delegation did not think of. The boda-boda riders asked for it.
They explained the problem themselves: bad repairs, counterfeit parts, breakdowns far from home, no warranty and no recourse. The garage answers exactly that. It offers repairs, genuine spare parts for Bajaj, TVS, Honda and other makes, roadside assistance and recovery, factory-trained mechanics, and a warranty on all work. Since it opened in December 2025 it has served more than two hundred motorcycles.
It also does what a workshop alone would not: rider-safety trainings with the police, and prevention work together with the dispensary. A boda-boda rider is often the sole income of a household; keeping him alive is a work of charity.
The garage is part of the “Orione Community” network, which exists to bring essential services close to the people who need them. Visit its website: orionegarage.co.ke ↗

The Centre is meant to stand on its own feet: the hall, the poultry and the garage are not decoration, they are how it survives. Partnerships, equipment and training are what it needs most.
