St. Stephen Parish, Kairi
Founded in 1997 and entrusted to the Sons of Divine Providence in August 2024: our first parish in the Archdiocese of Nairobi.
The parish
St. Stephen Parish, Kairi, belongs to the Mang’u deanery of the Archdiocese of Nairobi. It was founded in 1997 and was run by diocesan clergy until 2 August 2024, when Archbishop Philip Anyolo entrusted it to the Sons of Divine Providence — our first parish in the Archdiocese of Nairobi.
The parish counts about 1,800 Catholics in 542 families, with five chapels. The first Orionine parish priest is Fr. Denis Aoka, with Fr. Martin Kamau; the community numbers three priests.
Our works
The parish primary school
The parish runs and supervises its own primary school, with 396 students. The parish priest serves as the school’s director — which means the man who preaches on Sunday is also answerable for the roof, the teachers and the results.
Charity Day 2025
In 2025 the parish held its Charity Day: back-to-school hampers and mentorship for fifty children of the community. A hamper is a small thing. Being expected back at school in January is not.
