Don Orione Day 2025: over 300 members of the charismatic family gather in Nairobi

In May 2025, more than 300 members of the Orionine charismatic family gathered in Nairobi for Don Orione Day.

The Little Work of Divine Providence, founded by St. Luigi Orione in Tortona in 1893, is not only a congregation of priests and brothers. It is a family with several branches: the Sons of Divine Providence, the Little Missionary Sisters of Charity, the Hermits of Divine Providence, the Blind Sacramentine Sisters and the Don Orione Lay Movement. In Kenya all of these threads are present — and it was the Sisters, arriving in 1979, who brought the charism to this country before the Fathers did.

One charism, many hands

Those who came to Nairobi came from the whole spread of the Kenyan mission: religious from the parishes of Kandisi, Kaburugi, Kairi, Gaitu and Nyadorera; seminarians from the Formation House in Karen; sisters; lay men and women; students and families of the Orione Community Training Centres; teachers, therapists, drivers and cooks.

Days like this one exist because a charism is not an idea kept in a book. It is carried by people who mostly work far apart from one another — on the Maasai border, in the hills of Murang’a, near Lake Victoria — and who need, once in a while, to see how many of them there are.

Don Orione Day 2025 fell in the first year of the Delegation “Our Lady of the Rosary”, erected in Tortona in March 2024. Three hundred people in one place was, in its own way, the Delegation looking at itself.
