Fr. Evans Ombongi ordained in Kisii — the nineteenth Kenyan priest
On Saturday 9 August 2025 Deacon Evans Ombongi Nyabuto was ordained a priest in his home parish, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Nyamache, in the Diocese of Kisii. Dozens of Orionine priests took part, together with local priests from that diocese and thousands of faithful. In the history of this parish, it was the first ordination ceremony ever held there.
It is God who makes him worthy
In his exhortation Bishop Joseph Mairura of the Diocese of Kisii, who presided over the ordination, underlined the priesthood as a gift of God for his people. He reminded Deacon Evans never to forget that it is not he who deserves this great gift, but God who, in his mercy and his love, makes him worthy of it.
He also invited the newly ordained priest to take refuge in Mary, mother of priests and queen of the apostles, so that his vocation to the priesthood may bear fruit.
This is the nineteenth Kenyan priest ordained for the Delegation “Our Lady of the Rosary” — Kenya.
